September 3rd 2012
Milton Steam-Era
The Milton Fairgrounds have been the home to the Ontario Steam and Antique Preservers' Association Labour Day event, Steam-Era, for 52 years.

This event showcases antique farm and manufacturing equipment, ranging from steam to kerosene to gas powered tractors and stationary engines and the equipment they powered.

This year's event also featured antique construction equipment from the Historical Construction Equipment Association and the Simcoe County Museum. They have another show coming up soon.

A car show is presented every day, I made it for the Sunday show as I had a pass! The shows are not the largest but they are varied having everything from antique cars and trucks such as Model Ts and Dodge pickups. The day I was there these were here along with a Rolls Royce, Austin A95 and a Lamborghini Espada.

Big Tractors

Wagner WA 14 or 17 tractor, built by Wagner and later FWD Wagner.

It is not a "Big Bud" built by Big Bud Tractors of Havre Montana, as I first thought. This picture can be very confusing; I almost wrote an incorrect caption then decided to do what I do, reseach.

The Wagner tractor was the first articulated All Wheel Drive tractor that succeeded in the field. I was designed and developed by The Wagner brothers (seven of them) in the late 40s and early 50s for work in the large fields of the west. Many experiments with equipment available at the time allowed them to develop the tractor above. These were built by Wagner Tractors from the mid 50s to the early 60s when the company was bought out by FWD.

The tractors were essentially unchanged from this time to their end in the late 60s when they were forced out of business because of contracts with John Deere. This, and Wagner's manufacture of John Deere AWD tractors, is disputed by John Deere people.

The later "Big Bud" was built by Big Bud Tractors Inc. The Wagner dealership in Havre Montana started up manufacture after the demise of FWD Wagner.

Milton Sunday Cruise Night

A shuttle ran between the GO Station parking lot in the East end of Milton and the Fairgrounds. Coming back I ran into the last Sunday cruise night of the season. I did not have much time so there are just a few pictures.
