2014 Bruce County Steam Show
Paisley Ontario
August 15, 16, and 17

By Robert Ockenden

As usual, the Paisley Steam Show was a well attended event, drawing large numbers of exhibiters and spectators from over Ontario and bordering U.S. states. The location of the show is excellent, situated as it is in the heart of some of Ontario's best farmland.

The site encompasses well over 200 acres, and is situated about a kilometer south of the small town of Paisley on Bruce County #3, the highway which joins Walkerton, the County seat, to the towns of Southampton and Port Elgin. Numerous big and small pine board and batten buildings house a variety of displays, one of them being dedicated to transportation - a museum for antique horse drawn vehicles.

Campers and RVs enjoy the large on-site fully serviced area set aside for their use.

Antique and Classic Car Shows on the Saturday and Sunday.
Gigantic show, with tractors of all sizes, makes, and power modes, from antique to new. The "Featured Make" this year was John Deere.
Hundreds of antique and special interest ag and non-ag related machines - petrol, steam and horse powered.
Full size operating steam powered saw mill.
Working steam shovel filling very early dump trucks.
Tractor and riding lawnmower pull!
Flea market vendors selling a broad array of wares.
Operating model steam train layout.
Live bands: country of course!
Numerous and varied food vendors.

There was free admittance for exhibitor's cars and passengers.

On Sunday, British car attendance was down this year with only two represented besides our Lilly: a very nice tight '76 Mini Cooper belonging to Keith Davies of Miller Lake, and a fabulous crowd-pleasing Bond Mini Car from Lucknow, belonging to Pat and Danielle Broome.

In past years British car attendees have included among others, a brilliant early '20s unrestored Armstrong Siddeley and from Port Elgin, one of Bob Thompson's cars, And a beautiful '33 Rolls. In addition to a variety of the usual American auto manufacturer's cars, there were antique and classic, large and small, light and heavy duty trucks which as usual attended the event.

This great show in the middle of August might just be the sort of thing you're looking for on your holidays next summer, and you'll get to share your LBC with a bunch of interested people.
