November 15 2009

For us in Southern Ontario, winter just brushed by. It got cold rainy and a bit snowy; thankfully it did not amount to much. Then Indian Summer happened and is still happening!

Mark Cotnam has written a book. A Mini book. Appropriately it is for kids. Young ones; they can suck on the protected pages to their hearts delight. Link is on the Mini Group page.

Sunbeam Canada has some more history up on the web

Bronte happened!

It was a great day with a great turnout. Elva and I tried to get club entries. We got some but there are many others out there we did not. If you were there and have pictures of your car or fleet send them in!

I have more stuff in my inbox just waiting for me to get to so stay tuned!

September 10 2009

Please forgive me for it has been almost two months since my last update

I split up the Summer 2009 and the Livin' is Easy site into its individual parts. The file was getting a bit big and takes time for even me to download. I left it there just in case there are any who want to push their dialup connection to the ends.

Les and Mary Bond sent me a card with some pictures from the London "Classic" Car Show,in London.

I got pictures from Tony Fox and Kirk Blake-Dixon of the Southern Ontario leg of the Triumph TransAmerican Tour. Kirk managed to put his MGB GT next to Uncle Jack (John Macartney's Stag) up at the front of the line. How did he do this? Is anybody missing a Triumph?

The inagural Brits On the Lake downtown car show was held in Port Perry, ON. Tony Fox and Bill Schorse sent me pictures from this event.

Paul & Jan Dullaert sent me in pictures from the Vintage British Motorcar Exhibition at the Shaw Festival in Niagara-On_the_Lake,ON. I think he was smitten by a Volvo of all things.

From what I understand the picnic was a washout. In Tony's e-mail it was moved to Ned Devine's downtown Milton. If anyone has pictures of the die-hards who either did not get the e-mail or trailed out to the Museum regardless of the weather send me pictures!!

Richard Roberts from Whitehorse in the Yukon sent down some pictures of his fleet.

Coming up is Bronte!! Maybe the last blast or not. Fall could go on forever!

Also, John Macartney came back up to Canada south of Winnipeg and is as I write this motoring west of Calgary. I know Tony was in Winnipeg (there are pictures to prove this) and some of you may have pictures. I don't mind putting them up here.

Summer has started, according to the sun, the moon and the stars. Now if only the weather would co-operate!

I have set up a space for summer pics. Tony Fox has sent in some pictures of a gathering at the Paletta Mansion Strawberry Social. You guys got any more?

British Car Week had more visitors than contributers. Alan Brand sent me a picture of his Jaguar, Grace, just prepped for a respray. Richard Roberts of Whitehorse, The Yukon sent in some pictures of the Bentley Drivers Club's Alaska Tour as it passed through town.

I have some Mini pictures from Tony Fox as he was at the Vintage Racing Festival and Mini Meet North. I have room for more!

Richard Roberts of Whitehorse Yukon will send down pictures from the north as he comes across things that may be of interest to us. So far he has sent pictures from the Bentley Alaska Tour from this year and some pictures of the Pan-Am Tour from last year as they passed through Whitehorse.

I have room for more. How 'bout throwing the web guy a bone!!

British Car Week!!

As far as I am concerned Summer starts, Now!

I need pics for the British Car Week page. I do want pictures from this week for this page.

I have set up the British Car Week page. As of June 1st there have been 73 visitors to this page.

I have also set up a member's gallery. In here member's content can be placed in a similar way to the Events, Chapters, Marques, History and Finds.

To this I am setting up a business card directory for BSCCoC Members. This is essentially that same as the business card ads in the Oily Rag. I can make these linkable to websites and e-mail. If you are a BSCCoC member send me your card. My Mailing address will be in the next Oily Rag. If you are able, either scan your card or make up artwork and e-mail it to me. Final artwork size will be 330 by 190 pixels for me to fit them into the page. I can scale if needed.

I have revamped the membership page. Now a form can be filled out on line; the info will be e-mailed to Roger.

Summer has started for me!

I went to Ancaster with Dave and Elva; I've got pictures up at Spring Forward

I need some more pics for this page. So far it is just Fraser Cooper and me! Spring events have started. People are out for their cobweb runs and such; the swapmeets and autojumbles have started.

Last month I set up the British Car Week page. Amazingly there have been 31 visitors to this, with no content at all. I want lots of stuff! :)

Its beginning to feel a lot like spring time, at least in Southern Ontario!

Ancaster is quickly approaching, the 19th. Don't forget the new location! Kingston is a week later. With a view of the back end of Kingston Pen all should be scared straight.

New Section Alert!

I have set up a Club Member Gallery.
Here I can place stories and pictures from individual club members. It is embyonic right now with a tale from Dave Creer. Mighty Oaks start from an acorn.

Spring Forward, is still up. I still only have one submission. Keep me in mind here in the next couple of months.

Keep me in mind for British Car Week. I want pics from the week of May 30th to June 7th. This is one of those chances I will take bug you on this one.

Southern Ontario is feeling spring like, the Maritimes have just got dumped on, and the Red River may be lapping at some garage doors.

I hope you all stay warm and dry.

If anyone still has Wintry pix, I'll take them.

The new project, Spring Forward, is up and running. I have a total of one submission. Thanks Fraser. Driving season is starting soon. I may event get out on Saturday. Keep me in mind here in the next couple of months.

I have gotten ahead of myself, but I have the next web project up and ready for submissions. British Car Week is up. I want pics from the week of May 30th to June 7th. I'll have some more chances to bug you all on that one.

From Elva I have a newspaper ad from Winnipeg. Anybody else got any ads?

I have added a links to nationwide British Car Events Calendar for both Canada and the US

The Sap should be running fine!

For us in Southern Ontario there have been times where Spring breaks through only to be held at bay by the cold hand of Winter.

Right now it is sunny, definitely not warm. Spring is coming. Trust me I put in a requisition months ago.

I have some new stuff up here.

From Frank French i have got a new Winter Wonderland pic, which I will be putting up here, almost instantaneously.

From Elva Allen I have a Mini Group Blast from the past with a club article from Mini World Magazine

From Tony I have the new Events Calendar

From Roger I have a new Club Chapter page for Winepeg. All I need now is content

Also from Roger I have added the Wolseley forum to the Club and Forum Links page. The page has grown over the last few months and I think I can take anything now!

From totally out in the blue I have a find of Brit car parts. Pictures are here; contact detail are in the Oily Rag

The damn groundhogs saw their shadows!!

Damn! But Staten Island's groundhog, Chuck, got a bit of revenge, giving New York's Mayor a nip.

Frank French has caused me a lot of work :) While in Arizona he found something of interest. Hence, new Web Project - Finds!

For us in the north spring is approaching. We feel it, even if the crocuses don't

This is generally open forever, or until the end of the universe, or this website. You find something British Car related you are more than welcome to send it in. That goes for any of the pages. If you find a pic of your car drenched in snow send it in and I'll put it on the winter wonderland page. If you put a small pumpking on the "B" hood ornament of your Bentley, took a picture of it and did not send it in, I will still put it on the October Roads page. All of these are open.

Happy New Year!!

New Web Project - Winter Wonderland!

Our LBCs back in the days of old, when they were new had to slog on through the winter with only small consideration for the beating they took in our service and pleasure.
But some are still on winter roads today!

From Elva Allen I got a Somerset advertisement from a local paper, The KW Record

We have a new Chapter! Chris Skudlarek will send back articles for the Oily Rag and this website. A Big welcome to him!

the Far East - Japan Chapter

All of those car brochure pictures in the right sidebar are now linked to larger versions. If anyone has better scans of these I would like to get them up, the ones here are not the greatest. Check out:

The President's Message page is now linked and has content Check out:
the President's Message

Finally, all of these pages are new. Back in August when I got tapped to do the website, I wanted to get content up as fast as I could. Being a bit rusty in HTML, I cheated and did everything in Microsoft Word and saved it to HTML. It worked OK for a beginning but had some funnies which were annoying and took up 100 MB more space than these new pages do.
If anyone notices something that does not look right or an error made in translation let me know.
Thanks all for your support and submissions. Keep them coming!

Well, this page is new! The side bar just wasnít a canvas large enough to announce new additions to the web site.

New club member, Chris Skudlarek, has started a new Mini Club in Japan. As of this writing, the Far East Mini Club has 8 members. The club is now linked from the British Car Club page.

Club member David LaChance writes for a living, and as editor for Hemmings writes about automotive topics!

His article, Roverdrive, was originally written for Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car October 2008 issue.

It is a short history of Rover, with a timeline of company milestones. David has included the stories and cars of some of the participants at RoveAmerica 08, a gathering of Rover enthusiasts in Fitchburg, Massachusetts.

I Want Stuff

Baby Pictures

Find pictures showing you with your new car. Past or present, it does not matter. If you only have pictures of the car, when new(ish), find them too.

Favourite Tour Routes

Most of us have our cars for driving. We have routes from country back roads to windy river and escarpment roads.

Send me your favourite tour routes. I'll do my best to map them out and put them up.
