Toronto Triumph Club Still Casting For

Thank you to the volunteers who have already signed up. We are almost ready for the "Big Day" on the 15th but we still need "A few good men (and women!) to come to the aid of the Party".

Two "early birds" are desperately needed to come in by 6:45 AM to marshall volunteers and vendors into the park. I expect you should be done by 9:00.

Two people are needed starting at 9:45 herding the show cars into the park from Burloak Drive. You should be done by 1:00. Three more people are needed at the gate greeting the show cars and collecting their entry fee. Starting at 10:00, you should be done by 1:00.

Finally, we have a real need for people to stay after the show to help with the cleanup and teardown. If we can muster a small army of people to help, this job shouldn't take long at all. If you can spare an hour before you have to drive home, we can sure use your help.

If you can help in any of the areas above, could you please contact

Marshville Heritage Festival

Many of our Niagara area members made it to the Labour Day British Car Show at the Marshvill Heritage Festival.

Tony Fox has some pictures from the event.

The Day a Country Changed Sides

On September 3rd 1967 Swedish drivers switched from the left to the right side of the road. All of Sweden's neighbours drove on the left. And, according to Wikipedia, most Swedes drove LHD cars. The change was unpopular and managed to be put off since originally put forth in 1955.

The switch, "Dagen H" (H Day), was made on a Sunday, September 3rd, a day with less traffic and made to a rigorous time table.

On this day all non essential traffic was banned between 1:00 and 6:00 PM. The traffic on the road had to obey strict rules during that time. At 4:50 PM all traffic had to come to a complete stop then carefully move to the other side of the road by 5:00 PM when they could proceed.

In the cities, where there was more traffic the driving bans were from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. Signs had to be moved, extra traffic lights for the new traffic flow, and pavement markings had been made ready with tape and other coverings for a big strip off on Dagen H. Cities with trams pulled and sold them bringing on busses both newly purchased and refurbished.

Did it work? Well, that first Monday there were 125 reported accidents where previous Mondays had anywhere from 130 to 198 accidents reported.

I Want Stuff

Baby Pictures

Find pictures showing you with your new car. Past or present, it does not matter. If you only have pictures of the car, when new(ish), find them too.

Favourite Tour Routes

Most of us have our cars for driving. We have routes from country back roads to windy river and escarpment roads.

Send me your favourite tour routes. I'll do my best to map them out and put them up.
