Last Honeymoon Before War

In August of 1939 Margaret and Denys Gardiner were honeymooning in the English countryside. The slides taken on this trip were thought lost, but were found in a small box in an attic.

See the collection at Yahoo News

Thanks to George Albaugh for sending this in.

Cars On the High Seas

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May attempted a crossing of the English Channel in home made amphibious vehicles. One did not make it out of port, one sunk and one, Clarkson's, made it to France

Top Gear

James May, in what could be the most seaworthy and green seacraft, could not make it out of port

Top Gear

Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond made it out into choppy seas, they bravely turned tail for port

Top Gear

With the day calmer, Clarkson and Hammond, with May as Cabin Boy, strike out for Calais France
Hammonds mighty craft sinks leaving Hammond and May in the sea for tea

Top Gear

Clarkson, Hammond, and May venture to Calais in an attempt to break Sir Richard Branson's record crossing.
They Failed

Top Gear

Missing Calais they bounced off rocks ast they came ashore at the small port of Sangatte

Could this little craft have been the inspiration?

Chi-Cheemaun Festival Car Show 2014: June 21st , 1:00pm to 4:00pm

Our plan this year is to meet for a 10:00am breakfast at Duffy’s Farm Gate Market in Hepworth, before heading up the Peninsula en masse for a bit of a tour on the way to the Tub.

After breakfast at about 11:00 am, we’ll leave Duffy’s heading west on the South Diagonal Road. Then we’ll swing to the left onto Spring Creek Road, following its sometimes winding path ‘till it meets 6th Street and County #13 a.k.a the Sauble Parkway, in Sauble Beach.

Turning right we head north on #13 to Oliphant ‘till it becomes Bryant Street and later Huron Road, before it reaches Red Bay. From here it’s north again to Howdenvale where we swing left onto Sunset Drive and wind our way along this curvy Peninsula road into Pike Bay.

North of Pike Bay we turn east on its namesake road, travel a short distance and turn left, or north onto the West Road. This 1 ¼ mile stretch is the only gravel we’ll be on. At Spry we’re back onto pavement, and shortly we’ll intersect with County 9, which runs east to Ferndale.

Rather than heading for Ferndale, we continue north to Stokes Bay on... you guessed it, the Stokes Bay Road! Through Stokes Bay and north again to Clark’s Corners where we’ll swing east on... Clark’s Road! (is this getting simple or what?).

Clark’s Road leads to highway #6, which we turn onto and follow to the Tub and the Chi-Cheemaun Festival and Car Show!

I Want Stuff

Baby Pictures

Find pictures showing you with your new car. Past or present, it does not matter. If you only have pictures of the car, when new(ish), find them too.

Favourite Tour Routes

Most of us have our cars for driving. We have routes from country back roads to windy river and escarpment roads.

Send me your favourite tour routes. I'll do my best to map them out and put them up.
